Explanations:

  • All relationships above are in relation to you <the source>.

  • 2G, 3G, etc., stand for 2d Great, 3dGreat, etc.

  • 1C, 2C, etc., stands for 1st Cousin, 2nd Cousin, etc.

  • 1R, 2R, etc., stands for Once Removed, Twice Removed, etc.

  • The term Removed is confusing, primarily because the numbers deceivingly mean one thing for the descendants of your same generation cousins, and another for the descendants of your prior generation uncles/aunts:

    • For instance, the children of your great grand uncle/aunt are your 1C2R, and the grandchildren of your 1st cousins are also your 1C2R.

    • The confusing part is that you can have a 1C2R that's one generation older than you, and, at the same time, a 1C2R that's two generations younger than you.

    • Fact: For the direct-line descendants of your 2nd cousins, their descendants are  your 2nd cousins too, and the term Removed refers to the number of generations removed from you.

    • Fact: For the direct-line ancestors of your 2nd cousins, for each generation back, the cousin designation decreases by one, and the term Removed still refers to the number of generations removed from you.
