Their marriage record transcription says he was born 1851, & she 1871. There is much uncertainty of the details in the transition from his first wife to his apparent 2d wife, Mary Alice Hankins. Their marriage record transcription says they married in 1908, but she is named as the mother of at least six children who were all born before the marriage date. Thus, either they had children out-of-wedlock (not unreasonable, but somewhat unreasonable at the time), or the marriage date is wrong. The 1910 census does not clarify because only Nash and Alice are listed, so it appears that perhaps Mary Alice is his 3d wife, and there is an unknown 2d wife to whom those six children belong. There is also the possibility, and a more reasonable conclusion, that the children born from 1898 to 1908 were Mary's by her 1st marriage. This seems very reasonable because in the 1900 census, where the two youngest should be listed, the household consists of only Nash and Nathaline. However, the reasonableness vanishes by the 1910 census when only Nash and Mary are listed (what happened to the children?). Revisiting the 1900 census appears to solve the mystery for two of the children in question (Rosa and Joe). Henry F. Hankins (Mary's 1st husband) is listed in the 1900 census along with Mary; their two youngest are Rosie and Joe, who match the Rose and Joe whose death or marriage record indicates parents as Nash Woodall and Mary Alice. Thus, it appears that all of the children were born to Mary and her 1st husband, and that Nash adopted them and gave them the Woodall surname. Unfortunately, it doesn't explain what happened to all the children by the time of the 1910 census where they should have been listed with Nash and Mary but are not.
